Cancun — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has been awarded the 2025 National Award for Municipal Excellence in recognition of her municipal career, her contribution to urban causes, and her national leadership within the Mexican municipal movement. The award was presented by the Technical Evaluation Committee of the 2025 National Award for Good Municipal Governance.
Recognition for Governance and Social Programs
The Institute for Good Governance, through the 2025 National Award for Good Municipal Governance, analyzed the positive impact of social programs, transparency initiatives, and the fight against corruption. The evaluation committee specifically examined the positive impact of flagship programs from Lezama's administration, described as a humanist government with a feminist heart. These programs were noted for marking a milestone in transparency and well-being in Quintana Roo, with a focus on shared prosperity.
The highlighted programs include Guardians of Honesty and Guardians of the Countryside. These initiatives from the Anti-Corruption and Good Governance Secretariat promote accountability and integrity in public service. Also recognized was the We All Eat program, operated by the Quintana Roo Food Security Agency under the Welfare Secretariat, which combats food insecurity with a social justice approach.
A Prestigious National Honor
The National Award for Good Municipal Governance, established in 2010, is considered the most prestigious award of its kind in Mexico. It is organized by the Institute for Good Governance in collaboration with municipal associations and academic institutions. The award aims to identify governance practices that improve quality of life and can be replicated nationwide.
In presenting the award, officials emphasized that these actions are a fundamental part of the New Agreement for Well-being and Development. They stated that shared prosperity and the fight against corruption are the cornerstones for ensuring benefits reach every corner of the state.
Leadership and Representation
The award was received on behalf of Governor Mara Lezama by the Secretary of Anti-Corruption and Good Governance, Reyna Arceo Rosado, and the Director of the Food Security Agency, Ignacio Perera Medina.
The award reaffirms the Quintana Roo government's commitment to transparency.
