XUL-HA, MX. — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa expressed her full support for sugarcane producers in southern Quintana Roo during an event where 3,640 turkeys were delivered to producers, in response to a request and need to strengthen families during this holiday season.
“Today I am here because I know there have been difficult days. I want to tell you that there is a Governor for you, that there is always an open door, that whenever there has been a hardship, we have been there and we will continue to be there from the beginning until this humanist government with a feminist heart concludes,” Mara Lezama told them at the SEGALMEX Collection Center in this community of Othón P. Blanco.
The delivery was made in response to a request from the Unión Local de Productores de Caña de Azúcar A.C. and the Asociación Civil de Productores de Caña de Azúcar de la Ribera del Río Hondo, who requested support from the State Government to strengthen affiliated families in the sugarcane registry.
The Governor of Quintana Roo recognized the work of sugarcane production and highlighted state investments to strengthen the activity totaling more than 35 million pesos, including the delivery of a harvester, supplies, two biofactories, and pest management.
Mara Lezama explained to the sugarcane families that governing means administering the people’s money, which is always insufficient, “but it means touching lives, ending corruption, creating honest governments, listening carefully, fulfilling commitments, and providing support.”
She reported that work is underway regarding the road from Bachilleres to the sugar mill and that it will become a reality.
This incentive is being provided in a particularly complicated year for the sugarcane sector, due to low production recorded in the region, which has made it difficult to meet the needs of thousands of families. This sector represents one of the most important economic activities, generating employment and development for the area.
The delivery of turkeys represents a historic act for sugarcane families, being the first time such support has been provided, reaffirming the State Government’s backing and strengthening a model of government that is more just, stronger, and more prosperous.
During the event, it was recalled that the state government, through the Secretariat of Agricultural, Rural, and Fisheries Development (SEDARPE), has invested 35 million 529 thousand 138 pesos in actions for the sector, including the delivery of two harvesters, eight thousand doses of bio-inputs, two biofactories, integrated pest management diagnostics with CICY, eight thousand 150 doses of Serenade, as well as IMSS support for 1,241 producers, an initiative promoted by Governor Mara Lezama.
Present at the event were sugarcane leaders Sergio Crisanto Morteo, president of the Unión Local de Productores de Caña de Azúcar A.C., and Benjamín Gutiérrez Reyes, president of the Asociación Civil de Productores de Caña de Azúcar del Río Hondo A.C., who thanked Mara Lezama for her response.
Also present were Cristina Torres Gómez, Secretary of Government; Jorge Aguilar Osorio, Secretary of Agricultural, Rural, and Fisheries Development; Yensunni Martínez Hernández, Municipal President of Othón P. Blanco; Diana Friné Gutiérrez García, President of the Commission for Youth Development with Equal Opportunities of the XVIII Legislature of the State Congress; Adrián Díaz Villanueva, Chief Administrative Officer; Rosalino González y González, Delegate of Xul-Ha; José Alfredo Contreras Méndez, Municipal President of Bacalar; and Leonel Cantú Galindo, Ejidal Commissioner of Juan Sarabia.
