Governor Lezama’s Child Safety Campaign Hits Cinemas

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, in partnership with the cinema chain Cinépolis, has launched the awareness campaign "Children Are Unbreakable" to highlight and strengthen the prevention of crimes against children, foster greater societal sensitivity, and promote safe spaces for youth.

A Statewide Initiative

Under the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, Cinépolis has joined the campaign on a pro bono basis, projecting the campaign’s video across 127 screens statewide. The initiative aims to reach over 500,000 people through 508 daily screenings over six consecutive weeks.

Governor Lezama, accompanied by Verónica Lezama Espinosa, honorary president of the DIF-Quintana Roo system, and students from the Pilares-DIF program in Villas Otoch Paraíso, announced the campaign’s rollout at Cinépolis in Las Américas shopping plaza. The students attended the event with support from ADO.

Key Messages

The 31-second video features impactful phrases such as:

  • "If you don’t talk to them, they’ll talk to criminals."
  • "If you don’t listen to them, they’ll listen to addictions."
  • "If you don’t believe them, they’ll believe abusers."
  • "If you don’t hug them, they’ll embrace delinquency."

Governor Lezama emphasized the importance of Cinépolis’s social responsibility in amplifying the campaign’s message. "We are deeply grateful to Cinépolis for helping us share this message. This is a joint effort to raise awareness and create safe environments for children," she stated.

A Commitment to Safe Childhoods

The governor reiterated her administration’s humanistic and feminist approach to governance, prioritizing safe homes and communities where children can grow without fear. "This is what the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo is about—building violence-free spaces where everyone can live in peace," she said.

The campaign was first launched on February 17, 2025, to address the urgent need for family awareness in child protection. Governor Lezama urged parents to listen to and embrace their children to prevent them from falling into delinquency or self-destructive behaviors.

Broad Reach

Cinépolis operates 11 cinema complexes across Quintana Roo—in Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, and Chetumal—totaling 114 screens. With 570 to 684 daily screenings, the campaign is poised to reach a vast audience, particularly during the high-traffic months of July and August, when over 500,000 people visit Cinépolis theaters.

Attendees at the event included:

  • Óscar Rébora, Secretary of Ecology and Environment
  • Alonso Fernández Lemmen Meyer, Attorney for Environmental Protection
  • Roberto Carlos Anzaldo, Regional Manager of Cinépolis Quintana Roo

The campaign underscores the state’s commitment to child welfare and social transformation through collective responsibility.
