Lázaro Cárdenas, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has announced the modernization of the highway connecting Kantunilkín to Chiquilá, the primary access point for thousands of national and international tourists and local residents traveling to Holbox Island. The project will widen a 2-kilometer section of the road from 7 to 9 meters, creating two secure lanes of 3.5 meters each with one-meter lateral shoulders.
Accompanied by Municipal President Nivardo Mena Villanueva, the state executive highlighted the support of President Claudia Sheinbaum, facilitated through the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), for the rehabilitation of the highway from kilometer 71+100 to 73+100.
"For years, this stretch was deteriorated, with potholes, erosion, and constant risks. Today we are transforming that reality, because every minute saved on commutes, every product that arrives faster at its destination, and every family that travels safely means we are closing the painful gaps of inequality with social justice," expressed the Governor.
This modernization will benefit more than 760,000 people in the municipalities of Lázaro Cárdenas, Benito Juárez, and Playa del Carmen, as well as the hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit Quintana Roo each year, particularly in Holbox, Chiquilá, San Ángel, Solferino, and Kantunilkín.
"This road connects communities, strengthens tourism, and boosts the region's fishing, agriculture, and livestock farming. It represents well-being, development, and shared prosperity for thousands of Quintana Roo families," affirmed the head of the state executive.
While making this important announcement, Mara Lezama asserted that the well-being of families matters in this humanist government with a feminist heart.
