Cozumel, MX. – Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, accompanied by Municipal President José Luis Chacón, announced the construction of a package of 15 new domes in schools in Cozumel, as part of the state program to guarantee dignified educational infrastructure and protect girls, boys, and teachers from constant exposure to the sun and rain.
During a visit to the Vicente Guerrero elementary school, founded 64 years ago, the Governor noted that for over six decades, entire generations carried out school activities under the sun, in both the morning and afternoon shifts. “Imagine, for 64 years, the students did their gymnastics routines, their recesses, meals, and graduation rehearsals under the sun’s rays,” she said.
Surrounded by children and accompanied by teachers, Governor Mara Lezama emphasized that today the story is different. “We are a humanist government with a feminist heart where the health and well-being of your daughters and sons certainly matter to us,” she stated categorically.
Mara Lezama underscored that the investment of nearly 41 million pesos allocated to this dome package comes directly from the people. “It is not government money as was previously boasted; it is the people’s money, which returns to the people with total transparency. When corruption is combated, the money goes further,” she affirmed.
With these 15 domes, a project started alongside José Rafael Lara Díaz, head of Public Works, Mara Lezama reported that over 90% of the total dome goal for Cozumel will be surpassed.
The Governor recalled that an initiative has been approved in the State Congress mandating that schools in Quintana Roo must never again be built without a dome.
Likewise, she reiterated her administration’s commitment to complete the 1,109 domos that previous governments did not build. “And not only that, an initiative has been approved in the State Congress so that never again will a school be built without a dome,” she said.
“We are a humanist government, with a feminist heart. Your daughters and sons matter to us. These spaces are for them, so that recess is no longer canceled due to rain, so that they study and interact with dignity. A dome transforms the lives of students,” she concluded.
