Quintana Roo, Mexico — The Government of Quintana Roo has issued an alert regarding intense rains forecast for the week of October 6 through October 10.
The period of rainfall in Quintana Roo began several weeks ago, bringing heavy precipitation to different municipalities of the state. This has already generated some effects, including flooding, waterlogging, and other situations caused by the water, but this week is expected to be even more severe.
Through social media, the Government of Quintana Roo informed that a significant amount of rainfall is expected during the first days of the upcoming week. State authorities are urging citizens to follow the instructions of emergency response teams.
Rains to Prevail in Quintana Roo This Monday, October 6
Mara Lezama Espinosa, the Governor of Quintana Roo, warned tourists and the local population that a period of intense and heavy rains is forecast for the region between October 6 and 8. This weather system has the potential for torrential precipitation and wind gusts of between 40 and 50 kilometers per hour in areas affected by storms.
The municipalities of Othón P. Blanco (Chetumal), Bacalar, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Tulum, and José María Morelos, located in the central, southern, and southwestern parts of Quintana Roo, are the most affected by the warning of intense or heavy rains. According to Mara Lezama, the alert is in place for those populations, but impacts in other localities are not ruled out.
Tropical Wave to Generate Bad Weather in Quintana Roo
In Quintana Roo, tropical wave number 36 will contribute to winds of up to 50 kilometers per hour, particularly in the coastal areas of the state. Likewise, high waves are forecast for some parts of the coast.
For its part, cold front number five remains stationary on the nation's northern border and has no direct consequences for the Yucatán Peninsula.
Finally, the National Meteorological Service asked citizens to pay attention to official sources and follow the instructions of Civil Protection regarding the evolution of tropical wave number 36 in Quintana Roo, which will continue to affect the area with abundant humidity and intense rains.
