A young girl was severely injured after being thrown from a carnival ride in the tourist area of Cozumel last night. The incident took place around 10 pm at a fair located in Quintana Roo Park.
Reports suggest that the doors of the ride compartment in which the girl was seated unexpectedly opened. It appears the safety lock was not properly secured, leading to her ejection as the ride started spinning. The incident occurred in front of her parents and caused alarm among other fair attendees. A video showing the girl lying next to the ride's structure began circulating on social media shortly after the incident.
The girl's parents took her to a private hospital where she was reported to be in a serious but stable condition. Following the incident, officials from the Municipal Police, the State Prosecutor's Office, and Civil Protection arrived at the scene. They immediately closed down the ride and imposed penalties on the individuals responsible for the ride's operation.
Civil Protection also announced on social media that it had initiated administrative proceedings against those responsible for the ride. The company operating the ride has taken responsibility for the girl's medical expenses. Civil Protection issued a warning that all organizations responsible for safety at the fair are expected to strictly adhere to safety regulations. They emphasized that negligence that puts fair attendees' lives at risk will not be tolerated.
