A shark attack occurred in the waters of Banco Chinchorro, where a 58-year-old fisherman was the victim. The incident occurred in the afternoon, resulting in the man sustaining a 15 cm wound on his left leg and an injury to his patella on the same limb.
Following the attack, the fisherman was quickly transferred to the IMSS Hospital in Chetumal for immediate medical attention. The fisherman reported that the shark attacked him while he was pulling out his fishing nets.
In response to the incident, the Port Captaincy issued a warning to other fishermen. They highlighted the increased presence of sharks in the shallow areas of Costa Maya, attributing this to changes in the climate.
