Road Access Woes Plague Rural Solidaridad

Rural communities in the Solidaridad region are facing significant challenges due to a lack of harvest and access roads. This issue was highlighted by the Indigenous Affairs Unit of the Solidaridad City Council.

The Unit has identified 52 settlements so far, many of which lack suitable access roads. These roads are vital for transporting agricultural produce. Without them, communities like the new ejido of Lázaro Cárdenas, located next to Puerto Aventuras, are unable to get their crops to market.

This particular community is home to approximately 200 families. The lack of access not only affects their livelihoods but also reduces visibility of the issues they face to the wider public.

The Indigenous Affairs Unit is working to address this problem. It is currently conducting a population count across all communities. This will help determine the number of families in each settlement and the services they have access to.

The Unit has made significant progress since the start of the current administration. Initially, only 32 communities were recorded. However, thanks to the representatives of these communities, many more have been identified and included in the government's public policies.
