Cancún, Quintana Roo — A gas leak explosion in the Cielo Nuevo subdivision of Cancún left a man with burns to his face and legs after a stationary gas tank ignited. The incident occurred on Isla Maui and Isla Myconos streets in Supermanzana 249.

Incident Details

The explosion took place after the victim’s wife noticed issues with the stove flame while cooking. The man went outside to inspect the gas tank, which had a puncture at its base. As he attempted to adjust it, a sudden flare-up caused the explosion. Neighbors reported hearing the blast and immediately called emergency services.

Municipal police and Cancún firefighters responded swiftly to the scene. Paramedics from a private medical service provided first aid before transporting the injured man to the General Hospital. The damaged gas tank was later removed by the Cancún Fire Department.

Authorities continue to urge caution when handling gas equipment to prevent similar accidents.
