Holbox, Mexico — A gas leak reported in the early hours of Monday morning at The Hot Corner restaurant-bar in Holbox prompted the mobilization of emergency crews and Municipal Police, though the incident was controlled without any reported injuries or structural damage.
According to reports from rescue teams, the call was received around 00:45 hours, when police personnel notified authorities of a possible gas escape at the establishment, located in the island's central zone.
Firefighters arrived at the site immediately to verify the situation. They subsequently interviewed the cook, Alberto N, who explained that the incident occurred due to a fractured pipe connected to the stationary gas tank.
The same employee had closed the main valve prior to the authorities' arrival, which allowed the leak to be controlled and a potential disaster to be averted.
Emergency personnel inspected the building's second floor to confirm there was no gas accumulation and recommended a full review of the installation before activities are resumed.
The restaurant's manager was also present at the site and received the corresponding safety recommendations.
