Madrid, Spain — The immersive exhibition Frida Woman Experience, centered on the life and work of artist Frida Kahlo, has arrived at Paseo del Pintor Rosales in Madrid after launching last year in Tulum, Quintana Roo. The initiative, presented in collaboration with UN Women, features audiovisual content, photographs, family objects, and a perspective on Kahlo’s pictorial work.
The platform https://fridawomanexperience.com/ states that this exhibition “reveals unpublished aspects” of the Mexican painter’s life, who with talent and courage became a global icon. “This sensory experience is an innovative spectacle that combines interactive technology to offer a unique journey through Frida Kahlo’s universe.”
The experience showcases everything from Kahlo’s childhood at La Casa Azul to the menu from her wedding to Diego Rivera.
The tour takes the public through three rooms filled with history and interactive art, where beyond the visual, people are invited to discover Frida from a unique and profound perspective.
In the first room, according to the Frida Woman Experience platform, photographs narrating the artist’s life are presented under the artistic direction of Mairén Muñoz. Here, the dreaming young Frida is shown, the suffering young woman, and the woman who loved intensely.
In the second room, audios with her words and influences are heard, such as that of her father Guillermo Kahlo, a photographer of German origin who worked for President Porfirio Díaz and taught her to see the world through a lens.
While touring the spaces, the preparation of pan de muertos is also presented.
In the final room of Frida Woman Experience, walls covered with the painter’s letters can be seen. These are authentic texts, handwritten, addressed to different recipients, where she refers to Diego Rivera as “my toad child.” She also speaks of her experiences and pains.
This immersive proposal includes a gastronomic experience, as the public, with prior extra payment, can try the menu served at Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera’s wedding.
The culinary offering consists of esquites, red pozole broth, sope with pig’s feet and chicken, poblano chili stuffed with meat, and tres leches cake. The drinks offered range from mint and lemon water to tequila and mezcal.
The visit is guided by hosts with the aim of making the tour as personal and emotional as possible. The music, composed for this experience, demonstrates the sensitivity of the painter’s life.
The sensory experience in Tulum, Quintana Roo, takes place at Parque del Jaguar, where visitors can also access the archaeological zone and enjoy the beach.
