Cozumel — The Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC) invites the community to the opening of the painting exhibition “A Beautiful World. Near and Far,” by artist Cindy Schenker Hill. The event will take place on Friday, March 13, at 8:00 p.m., at the Island Museum, with free admission for all the public.
A Collection Spanning Five Years on the Island
The director of the Island Museum, Isela Carrillo Cupul, reported that this exhibition brings together works created during the last five years, a period in which the artist has lived in Cozumel. She found a new source of inspiration in its landscapes, its biodiversity and the natural richness of the island.
The collection consists of 57 works created primarily using the watercolor technique.
Artist Finds Inspiration in Cozumel
Originally from Arizona and a resident of Cozumel since 2021, Cindy Schenker recounted that her artistic adventure on the island began when she decided to move to this destination that captivated her with its unique landscapes and creatures. From a young age, she has maintained a deep passion for art, which she has cultivated through studies in school and university, as well as through workshops with experienced artists.
As an illustrator and designer, she has developed the ability to tell stories through images. Her creative process is intuitive: she starts with shapes that she later fills with color, texture, and details using watercolor and ink, and sometimes uses acrylic paint to give the final touch to her works.
Taken together, the pieces that make up “A Beautiful World. Near and Far” record five years of observation, adaptation and artistic discovery on the island, showing the artist's sensitive gaze towards the small details of daily life that often go unnoticed.
Foundation Highlights Cultural Mission
For her part, the general director of the FPMC, Juanita Alonso Marrufo, highlighted that these activities strengthen the cultural life of the community. She stated this is in line with the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, bringing diverse artistic expressions closer to the population through open and accessible spaces for everyone.
Finally, she reiterated the invitation to the public to attend this inauguration and enjoy an artistic proposal that celebrates the beauty of the natural environment and the creative vision of those who observe it.
