Cozumel, Mexico — The Foundation of Parks and Museums of Cozumel (FPMC) is once again championing contemporary art and environmental reflection with the inauguration of the conceptual art installation "Iguanas: Kings of the Earth and Human Consciousness," by multidisciplinary artist Daniel Aguilar Arreguín. The event is scheduled for Friday, October 10, at 8:00 p.m., at the Museo de la Isla, where the public can immerse themselves in an experience that unites creativity, nature, and ecological awareness.
The general director of the FPMC, Juanita Alonso Marrufo, emphasized that these cultural activities call for the participation of artists and society to strengthen social cohesion and community bonds, as established in the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.
For her part, the director of the Museo de la Isla, Isela Carrillo Cupul, shared that Daniel Aguilar, originally from Mexico City, has developed a prolific career since 1996 in disciplines such as art installation, object art, painting, photography, poetry, and action art, in addition to promoting culture in various national and international spaces.
Currently, the artist is exploring land art, a discipline that inspired him to create the series "Iguanas: Kings of the Earth and Human Consciousness," in which he pays homage to this reptile emblematic of the Mayan cosmovision. According to Aguilar Arreguín, this species is a patient observer of its environment, a symbol of resilience and ancestral wisdom, even associated with Itzamná, the Mayan deity of knowledge.
The FPMC invites the Cozumel community to be part of this artistic experience that connects nature, spirituality, and contemporary art. The event is scheduled for Friday, October 10, at 8:00 p.m., at the Museo de la Isla.
