Terrifying Collision on Puerto Aventuras-Akumal Highway

A severe head-on collision occurred on the Puerto Aventuras-Akumal stretch of Federal Highway 307 on Wednesday afternoon. The accident resulted in two vehicles being completely wrecked and four individuals sustaining injuries. The incident was reported to 911 around 2:20 pm on March 12th, with several passing drivers stopping to assist the victims before emergency services arrived.

The preliminary report indicates that three women and one man were injured in the collision. Bystanders were able to extract them from the wreckage and placed them safely on the side of the road to await medical assistance. Paramedics arrived on the scene a few minutes later, assessed the injured parties, and transported them to a hospital in Playa del Carmen for further treatment.

Initial investigations suggest that a blue Nissan March may have veered into the opposite lane, causing a direct impact with a white Nissan Sentra. The force of the collision was so intense that both vehicles ended up severely damaged on the side of the road, leading to significant traffic disruption.

Members of the National Guard arrived on the scene to secure the area and compile an incident report. They also arranged for the removal of the damaged vehicles, which were towed to an impound lot pending the determination of responsibility for the accident. Authorities are currently investigating whether the crash was a result of speeding, driver distraction, or other factors.
