Cancún, Quintana Roo — A severe traffic accident occurred Friday morning on Tulum Avenue in front of the private Galenia Hospital, leaving at least four people dead and ten others seriously injured.
Details of the Crash
According to the Quintana Roo Secretary of Citizen Security, the collision took place around 6:30 a.m. in Supermanzana 12. A white passenger van and a taxi from the “Andrés Quintana Roo” Taxi Union, bearing fleet number 0059, violently collided. One of the vehicles overturned and was severely damaged on the roadway.
Emergency responders, including transit officers, firefighters, Civil Protection personnel, and paramedics, arrived at the scene to assist the injured. However, delays in transporting victims due to a shortage of stretchers and ambulances caused tension between emergency crews and bystanders.
Victims and Witness Accounts
Preliminary reports indicate that four of the deceased were construction workers en route to their jobs. A third victim was covered with a white sheet as firefighters worked to extricate another individual trapped inside the overturned vehicle, who showed no signs of life.
Witnesses reported that a third vehicle, a gray Attitude sedan, was also involved in the incident, striking a pole several meters from the main crash site. Among the injured was a young man identified by his red shirt, safety vest, and denim pants as a construction worker. He was transported in critical condition to a nearby hospital.
Authorities Urge Caution
Officials urged the public to avoid the area to facilitate rescue operations and allow emergency vehicles unobstructed access. An investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the accident.
