AMLO Launches Book on Mexican Cultural Greatness

Former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador presents his new book Grandeza

Mexico City, November 30 (SinEmbargo). Former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) presented his new book titled Grandeza this Sunday, which he wrote during his retirement from public life. He also announced that next year he will publish a second text in the series, which will be called Gloria.

The Tabasco native reappeared in a video, recorded from the “La Chingada” estate in Palenque, Chiapas, in which he explained that after retiring from political practice, he decided to dedicate himself to writing texts that explain the foundations of what he called “Mexican humanism,” one of the pillars of the so-called Fourth Transformation (4T).

“I thought about what to dedicate myself to and decided to dedicate myself to doing theory, to writing. I have always maintained that politics is thought and action […]. I was fundamentally a man of action in my public, political work, and now I am writing, I am doing theory. Politics is theory and practice,” he mentioned.

AMLO revealed that he plans to write two books to explain each of the two pillars that underpin “Mexican humanism”: one about the cultural greatness of Mexico, which will soon be available, and another about the country’s political history, which will be published in 2026.

“I present the first one, the one that has to do with the cultural greatness of Mexico. That’s what it’s called: Grandeza. The one coming next year will be called Gloria,” he said.

The former president detailed that in his first book, written during his retirement, he presents research of more than a year about the emergence of pre-Hispanic cultures, such as the Olmecs and the Maya, the importance of their cultural heritage; as well as the atrocities committed during the Conquest.

“I would like Spaniards to read this book because here they will see how they marked, branded, with the king’s iron, on the faces of indigenous people to enslave them and other horrors,” he emphasized.

AMLO Will Not Tour to Promote His Books

Despite stating that he would like to tour the country to present his books Grandeza and Gloria, the Tabasco native assured that he does not plan to leave his retirement, especially to “not cast a shadow” on President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

“I am presenting the book this way because I cannot go to present it in Mexico or in public squares, I would very much like to, but I have retired from political activity. We must not cast a shadow on our President. She is the one leading and she is doing very well. We must not divide ourselves. We must be very close and united,” he pointed out.

AMLO emphasized that he will not leave his retirement to promote his books at public events. In turn, he noted that there are only three reasons for which he would be willing to leave his retirement to return to political activity.
