Ex-Official Charged in Playa del Carmen Stage Accident

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — José Luis 'N', the former Secretary of Spectacles during the previous municipal administration, has been formally charged with crimes against life and linked to legal proceedings. He is accused of being the principal official responsible for omissions that led to the fall of a giant screen, which injured pre-Hispanic dancer Noé González.

José Luis 'N' is the third former public servant from the past municipal administration to be detained, joining a list that includes Ariadne 'N', a former secretary within the government, and Jorge 'N', a former lawyer for the Advisory Secretariat.

According to sources consulted by Novedades de Quintana Roo, the initial hearing for the formulation of charges and linking to the process occurred on September 26. Testimonies from the hearing indicate that after being formally charged, the former official requested to be granted house arrest or a order to remain in the area. However, the control judge did not grant him this precautionary measure and instead imposed preventive prison in jail for a minimum period of two months while the complementary investigation lasts.

José Luis 'N', who also maintains business activities in Cozumel, was detained on the island at five-thirty in the morning on Thursday, according to the National Registry of Detentions. His apprehension occurred in the Félix González Canto neighborhood. He was then immediately taken to Playa del Carmen, where he was placed in the Municipal Retention Center, where he remains deprived of his liberty.

This Friday, the victim, Noé González, and his wife, Arcelia Galván, stated that they are primarily seeking reparations for the damage, more than the legal consequences for the former official.

Noé González remains in a serious condition that has greatly harmed his life due to the injuries he sustained from the fall of the enormous volume of electronic equipment on him. The incident occurred during the evening of July 28, 2023, during the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Solidaridad, now Playa del Carmen.
