Mexico City — All museums under the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) network in Mexico City have resumed normal operations after a two-day closure due to a lack of security personnel. Claudia Curiel, Secretary of Culture, confirmed the reopening of the institutions during their regular hours.

Temporary Closure Due to Security Shortage

Earlier this week, several INAH museums, including the National Museum of Anthropology, the National History Museum (Chapultepec Castle), the National Museum of Interventions, the Templo Mayor Museum, and the El Carmen Museum, temporarily closed their doors. The shutdown was officially attributed to an ongoing bidding process for security services, with the selected company scheduled to begin work on June 4.

Visitors, both domestic and international, were met with unexpected closures on June 3 and 4. On the evening of June 4, Claudia Curiel de Icaza, head of Mexico’s Secretariat of Culture, announced via her X account that she had instructed INAH Director Diego Prieto to take necessary steps for the prompt reopening of all affected museums.

Confirmation of Reopening

By 10 a.m. on June 5, Curiel confirmed that all INAH museums in the capital had reopened. Several institutions shared updates on social media, including photos of newly deployed security personnel.
