Five Women Rescued in Cancún Human Trafficking Raids

Law enforcement operation at a bar in Cancún during human trafficking investigation

Cancún. Following investigative work, the State Attorney General’s Office, in coordination with the Navy Secretariat and Municipal Police, executed two search warrants at an equal number of properties, where five women, alleged victims of the crime of human trafficking in its form of prostitution for others, were located and safeguarded.

The first raid took place at a clandestine bar located on José López Portillo Avenue, between an unnamed street and Las Bugambilias Street, in the Tres Reyes neighborhood, where investigative agents located five women, all of Mexican nationality, who were engaging with clients through a token system and offering sexual services.

According to initial investigations, at the establishment, the victims were charging 50 pesos per token. For the provision of sexual services, they charged between 500 and 2,500 pesos, depending on the victim’s age. In both cases, the establishment benefited with 50 percent.

The second action was carried out at a bar located on Calle 3 Oriente, in Supermanzana 64. Preliminary investigations indicate that young women worked under a system of “tokens” or consumptions, with a cost of 100 pesos; from this amount, 50 percent was also allocated to the establishment.

It should be noted that, at the latter site, agents secured various substances with characteristics of narcotics, condoms, victim registration logs, and six DVRs. Additionally, they located private rooms where sexual exploitation was exercised.

After concluding the procedures, seizure seals were placed on the properties, with both locations remaining under the custody of this social representation.

Due to their vulnerable condition, the women were safeguarded and referred to the corresponding authority, in order to guarantee their protection, comprehensive care, and access to their rights.
