TULUM, Mexico — Five beaches located within the Jaguar Park in Tulum are now officially free and open to the public, according to an announcement made this week. The decision grants both local residents and international tourists free access to the coastlines without any entry fee.
New Public Access Policy
The move comes after a meeting held a couple of weeks ago between Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama and the Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora. The meeting addressed the growing controversy that had drawn national attention to Tulum's treatment of tourists, following assertions on social media that prices were exorbitant and that fees were being charged for beach access.
The new free entry points are intended, in part, to help calm the discontent surrounding the park's creation and its impact on local artisans. The initiative includes new signage, improved cleaning services, and aims to direct visibility toward the businesses of artisans located near the beaches.
Accessing the Free Beaches
The five public beaches with free access are:
- Playa Paraíso
- Playa Pescadores
- Playa Santa Fe
- Playa Conchitas
- Playa del Pueblo
Access to these beaches is available through entrances established by the Tulum City Council at the Southern Access point or along Federal Highways 307 and 16.
Park Entry Versus Beach Access
Officials clarified that the free beach access is direct and does not pass through the main attractions of the Jaguar Park. Visitors who wish to enter the park itself to see its attractions must purchase an admission ticket.
The park's entry fees are listed as follows:
- Foreigners: 415 Mexican pesos per person.
- Mexican Nationals: 255 Mexican pesos per person.
- Quintana Roo Locals: 105 Mexican pesos per person.
- Sundays: Free admission for all.
Rules for Visitors
The rules for entering the free beaches at Jaguar Park stipulate that visitors must not introduce contaminants and are required to pick up all their trash, including any food or beverage waste. The free access entrances were inaugurated this week.
