Mexico City — The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a warning for a superstorm that will impact a Mexican state within the next 72 hours, bringing very heavy rain and the possibility of snow across the United States. A separate warning is in effect for a low-pressure area affecting the Pacific, which is forecast to bring very heavy rain to that region and also to Mexico, primarily in four states.

"A Pacific storm will bring heavy to excessive rainfall to coastal and low-lying areas of Southern California and the Southern Rockies today, with possible localized flash flooding, especially near recent fire areas," the NWS reported.

The forecast for very severe rainfall includes these four Mexican states:

  • Baja California, mainly in Tijuana
  • Chihuahua
  • Sinaloa
  • Tamaulipas

The Pacific low-pressure zone was reported to bring not only heavy rain but also large amounts of snow, especially in the U.S. states of:

  • California
  • Nevada
  • New Mexico

While snow in Mexico is expected to be light, primarily in Chihuahua, the United States is experiencing the first Nor'easter, or Superstorm, of the year. Meteorologists consider this phenomenon equal to or more devastating than a hurricane. It is forecast to affect the Cape Cod area in the New England state within the next 72 hours.

The nor'easter will move out to sea later today, allowing for the possibility of light rain in northern New England over the next 72 hours. "While the rain was a dry spell, much of the region missed out on the heaviest precipitation," the NWS noted.

It is worth mentioning that Nor'easters or Super Storms bring with them:

  • Snowfall
  • Floods
  • Freezing air

These phenomena generally occur on the East Coast of the United States and have produced devastating effects throughout U.S. history.
