Mexico City — A new hybrid space combining veterinary care with a cafe has opened in Mexico City’s Roma neighborhood, offering pet owners a place to enjoy coffee while their animals receive medical attention.
Located at Insurgentes Sur 318 in an area with high pet density, the facility represents the first combined SimiPet Care veterinary clinic and Simi Cafe from Grupo Por Un País Mejor. The concept emerged from community feedback asking why pet owners couldn’t enjoy coffee during veterinary visits.
“This is an experiment that brings together two young projects from our group,” said Victor González Herrera, Executive President of Grupo Por Un País Mejor. “If the public adopts it, expansion will come naturally.”
The space features a cafe serving American coffee, Simi pastries, cookies and snacks alongside veterinary consultation rooms, grooming areas, and a canine spa with nail trimming, styling, warm water baths and oatmeal shampoo.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by founder Dr. Simi (Victor González) and González Herrera, the company announced veterinary consultations would cost 75 pesos (approximately $4 USD) — significantly below the market average of around 300 pesos. The company said approximately 70 veterinarians currently work in their network.
“In a zone where pet services can become inaccessible, having an economical and nearby alternative changes the daily dynamic,” one attendee noted during the opening.
Grupo Por Un País Mejor currently operates 51 SimiPet Care clinics across eight Mexican states and plans to reach 150 units by year’s end. The cafe format will expand as it becomes established.
González Herrera also revealed plans for international expansion, with a Dr. Simi experience store planned for Tokyo’s Shibuya district. The strategy involves testing the market with merchandise like plush toys, souvenirs and Simipops before considering additional business formats in Japan.
