Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama joined Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado to inaugurate the first medical unit under the "Health Without the Hassle" program, located in the 4th Park of Villas del Sol. The initiative aims to provide free and accessible healthcare to families, with plans to distribute 20,000 medical cards for no-cost services.

A Commitment to Public Health

Governor Lezama emphasized the importance of healthcare as a fundamental right, stating, "Health is not a luxury; it is social justice. In Quintana Roo, justice begins in clinics, in public hospitals, in every community that was once forgotten and is now being served." She praised Mayor Mercado’s efforts, adding, "When governing is done hand-in-hand with the people, solutions arrive faster and reach further."

Mayor Mercado invited Governor Lezama to cut the ribbon and tour the facility, which offers services including unlimited general consultations, free basic medications for over 90 conditions, dental cleanings with ultrasound, extractions, lab tests, gynecological exams, and vision screenings.

Expanding Access to Care

The program’s first four medical cards were awarded to beneficiaries Arely, Raquel, Maricruz, and Juan. Each card extends coverage to up to three children under 18.

"This is a clear example of what we achieve when we work in coordination—municipal and state governments united—because in this new way of governing, we don’t discuss health from a desk; we live it, defend it, and bring it to those who need it most," Governor Lezama said.

Mayor Mercado explained that the program was developed after listening to residents’ needs. "Today, this commitment becomes reality with the opening of this fully equipped medical unit, designed to provide free, quality care close to home," she stated.
