Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A fire broke out in the palapa structure on the upper floor of the bar "Los Olvidados," located in the heart of Playa del Carmen's tourist district. The incident was first noticed by Municipal Transit officers during their routine patrol along Avenida 10.

Swift Response Prevents Major Disaster

Upon reaching the intersection with Calle 6, officers observed heavy smoke and a strong burning odor. After inspecting the public parking area behind the bar, they confirmed that the palapa structure was on fire.

The emergency call was immediately relayed to the central dispatch, prompting a rapid response from rescue teams. Personnel from Civil Protection, Firefighters, and Transit secured the area, closing vehicular traffic between Calles 6 and 8 to facilitate access for emergency vehicles.

Firefighters, supported by a water tanker and a telescopic ladder, managed to extinguish the flames before they could spread, averting a larger disaster in one of the city's busiest zones. The incident resulted only in material damage.

Evacuation and Ongoing Investigation

The bar was operational at the time, necessitating the precautionary evacuation of patrons. Following the incident, the establishment closed its doors.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire but have not ruled out the possibility of arson. Investigations remain ongoing.
