Cancún, QR — A man allegedly linked to at least 14 murders has been arrested. On Monday, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported during a press conference the capture of Luis Alberto “N”.
Raciel López Salazar, head of the FGE, stated that Luis Alberto “N”, alias “Pancho Arreola”, has been connected to at least 14 homicides committed in Cancún and the mainland area of Isla Mujeres.
López Salazar said that Luis Alberto “N” was detained on Gastón Alegre López Avenue in SM 243 of Cancún earlier this month.
During his arrest, a 9-millimeter firearm was seized, along with various doses of marijuana, methamphetamine, and crack. Thanks to results from the Integrated Ballistic Identification System, he has been linked to 10 ongoing investigations, explained López Salazar.
By comparing the seized weapon with ballistic analysis, the system showed matches with 10 homicide investigations and one for firearm-related injuries.
The suspect has been linked to murders related to drug sales in Cancún and Isla Mujeres. These incidents occurred at different points in Cancún and the mainland area between February and October, he noted. Among the resolved cases are the murders of Luis Alexander “N” and Álvaro “N”, which occurred on February 24 in the Paraíso Plus neighborhood, where the victims were attacked inside a barbershop.
Similarly, the murder of Luis Miguel “N” in the El Betel neighborhood was linked to a drug trafficking debt. Another case is that of Edwin Ignacio “N” and Pedro Joaquín “N”, who died on July 31 in Supermanzana 244.
According to the investigation, both were at a drug sales point when they were attacked. The murder of Jesús Antonio, which occurred on August 12 in the same area, was also linked to drug-related disputes.
The analysis established a link to the murder of Pablo “N”, which occurred on September 18 in the Ventura neighborhood, as well as to the murders of Johan “N” and Ángel “N”, aged 16 and 21 respectively, which occurred on September 23 in the El Esfuerzo neighborhood.
The seized weapon was also identified as the one used in the murder of Miguel Osvaldo “N”, which occurred on October 23.
In addition to the 10 cases linked by ballistics, López Salazar indicated that there is evidence linking Luis Alberto “N” to four others. These include the cases of Gabriel “N” and Carlos Daniel “N”, whose bodies were found buried in the Privanza neighborhood, as well as those of José Ángel “N” and Noé Benjamín “N”, the latter for alleged collaboration with a rival group.
State authorities stated that the detainee allegedly coordinated the collection of drug profits in the border area between Cancún and Isla Mujeres and commanded a group of operatives involved in both street-level drug trafficking and armed attacks.
After his arrest, a judge ordered that he be tried and placed in preventive detention while the investigation continues.
