Isla Mujeres — With a significant turnout from the island community and visitors, the Isla Mujeres government, led by Municipal President Atenea Gómez Ricalde, successfully celebrated the start of the Festival of Life and Death: "Between the Living and the Dead," with the majestic "Xibalbá" Underworld night, a spectacle filled with tradition, art, and culture that brought life to the Municipal Explanada.
During this memorable evening, families enjoyed a stage production inspired by the pre-Hispanic roots of the Mayan people, featuring dances, music, and a spectacular fire show that illuminated the island sky.
The Municipal President emphasized that this festival aims to preserve and strengthen Mexican traditions while promoting citizen participation, local talent, and the cultural identity that distinguishes Isla Mujeres.
In an atmosphere full of color, history, and pride, the coronation of the festival ambassador for "Light and Life: Between the Living and the Dead" took place. The young woman Tanit de María Valerio Romo was crowned and also delighted the public with a musical presentation. This moment symbolized the union between the cultural heritage of the past and the vitality of the new generations, reinforcing the government's commitment to promoting art and culture in all its expressions.
In her message, Atenea Gómez highlighted that activities like this reflect her government's vision of fostering spaces for family coexistence and rescuing the value of local traditions in spaces of peace, joy, and community pride.
"In Isla Mujeres, we celebrate life, we honor memory, and we strengthen the bond that unites us as a people. This festival is a demonstration of the love we feel for our roots and of our commitment to the culture and families of Isla Mujeres," she stated.
The "Xibalbá" night also featured the participation of talented local artists and dance groups who shared their art with enthusiasm, demonstrating that Isla Mujeres is a cultural reference point in the Mexican Caribbean.
With this start, the Festival of Life and Death "Between the Living and the Dead" reaffirms its role as one of the most anticipated celebrations in the municipality, promoting social fabric and well-being.
