Majahual, Quintana Roo — The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) has imposed a full temporary shutdown on landfill works and activities conducted on a property located on Majahual Avenue, between Pargo and Rubia streets. The action was taken after the responsible party failed to provide proof of an environmental impact authorization issued by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat).
The enforcement measure was carried out on November 7, following an inspection visit prompted by a citizen complaint filed by members of the Participative Environmental Vigilance Committee, who collaborate with Profepa in this region of southern Quintana Roo.
During the inspection, the presence of landfill material dumped within the federal maritime-terrestrial zone was confirmed. This intervention was carried out without permits in an area of high ecological sensitivity.
Faced with the lack of proper authorization, Profepa enforced the full temporary closure in accordance with the provisions of the General Law of Ecological Equilibrium and Environmental Protection.
The federal agency reiterated that it will continue to address citizen complaints and reinforce environmental surveillance to ensure the protection of coastal ecosystems and the strict enforcement of regulations in Majahual and throughout Quintana Roo.
