Maya Train columns show ongoing damage, activists warn

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Members of the environmentalist collective Sélvame MX have denounced that columns of the Maya Train on the Tulum-Cancún section continue to show structural damage, despite previous repair commitments, posing risks to both passengers and the natural environment.

According to the activists, these are structures that continue “bursting” or crumbling, a situation that could compromise the safety of the railway project and affect the area’s aquifers, which are highly sensitive due to the characteristics of the subsoil in the region.

The complaint was accompanied by a video disseminated through the account @SelvaMx, in which columns with visible damage are observed, some with concrete detachment. The images show the deterioration of infrastructure that, they claim, has not been properly addressed.

According to the collective, they recently conducted a dive to verify if the damages had been repaired, as had been announced. However, they confirmed that one of the columns that was previously severely damaged remains in the same condition, despite tons of concrete having been poured in the area at the time.

The activists reiterated their call to the authorities responsible for the project to immediately address these issues, considering that the problem not only implies a possible structural risk but also an environmental impact that could worsen if not corrected in time.
