Quintana Roo, Mexico — A series of coordinated operations in Cancún and Cozumel have led to the detention of eleven individuals linked to drug dealing activities, along with the seizure of various illicit substances. The actions reinforce ongoing efforts to combat organized crime in the region.
Operations in Cancún and Cozumel Seize Drugs and Capture Individuals Linked to Health Law Violations
The operations, carried out by the State Attorney General's Office in conjunction with federal forces, included five search warrants executed in different neighborhoods of both tourist destinations. Authorities confiscated marijuana, a powder similar to cocaine, white fragments, and a crystalline material, suspected to be drugs such as crack and cocaine.
In Cancún, police efforts were concentrated in several neighborhoods, locating bags of marijuana and white residues in different locations. The first intervention was focused in the Supermanzana 228, where three individuals were detained following the discovery of marijuana and crystalline substances.
Subsequently, in Supermanzana 234, four other people were captured with drugs and a payment terminal, an item that could be linked to informal sales activities.
In Cozumel, in the 10 de Abril neighborhood, agents secured marijuana and white fragments in the possession of two detained individuals. Another search warrant in the San Miguel I neighborhood allowed for the seizure of packages containing crystals and white powder, presumably crack and cocaine, in addition to the capture of one detainee.
In the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood, bags containing possible doses of marijuana and drug fragments were also secured, adding to the total number of detainees.
These operations represent a significant step in the strategy against crime in Quintana Roo, where authorities have intensified their actions to reduce the flow of drugs in tourist and residential zones. The Attorney General's Office continues its investigations to determine responsibilities and link the detainees to broader illicit substance distribution networks, highlighting the importance of maintaining these efforts to guarantee public security in the region.
All properties were secured while authorities determine the legal situation of the nine men and two women arrested, in an action that seeks to strengthen justice efforts in the state.
