RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO — From October 24 to 26, 2025, the Eco-Bahia Foundation actively participated in the 23rd Sea Turtle Festival Tulum 2025, a celebration promoting the protection and conservation of one of the most emblematic natural treasures of the Mexican Caribbean: sea turtles.
For three days, local communities, organizations, and visitors gathered in Akumal, Tulum, and Xcacel-Xcacelito to learn, play, and take action in favor of the coastal ecosystems that are home to these ancient species.
Interactive Activities for Conservation
The Eco-Bahia team presented three dynamics designed to sensitize and educate in a fun way: "Protect the Nest," an interactive game that reflects on the threats faced by turtle nests; "Tortu-ruleta," a wheel of knowledge with eight thematic fields on species, conservation, and curiosities; and "Ghost Fishing: Free the Turtle!," focused on the impacts of abandoned fishing nets on marine fauna.
More than 100 participants, including children and adults, took part in these experiences, which concluded with an artistic activity to paint pots shaped like sea turtles and mandalas, fostering creativity, connection with nature, and a commitment to conservation.
Community Celebrations and Recognition
The inaugural caravan in Akumal was an emotional celebration with dance, music, and artistic representations symbolizing the arrival of the sea turtles, while in Tulum and Xcacel-Xcacelito the dynamics continued to strengthen the community bond in favor of the beaches.
Furthermore, the Eco-Bahia team, under the name "Los Caguameros," participated in the sand sculpture contest, obtaining third place and demonstrating creativity and team spirit.
A Mission for Future Generations
"Our mission is to inspire new generations to protect marine ecosystems. Every smile, every game, and every question is a seed of awareness that will blossom into a more sustainable future," emphasized Luis Verdín, Manager of the Eco-Bahia Foundation in Mexico.
The festival was organized in collaboration with various allied organizations such as the Akumal Ecological Center, Flora, Fauna y Cultura de México A.C., Tulum Circula, Red Ambiental, Fundación Santuario Akumal, Santuario Xcacel-Xcacelito, and local environmental authorities.
The participation of Eco-Bahia reaffirms its leadership in environmental education programs in Quintana Roo and its commitment to building a future where community and nature coexist in harmony. These actions consolidate the Foundation's role as a regional reference in regenerative tourism and conservation of natural capital and invite the community to join in the protection of the environment and marine life by making donations through the official site: https://eco-bahia.com/colabora.
