Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A dog died by drowning in the sea after its owners allegedly forced it into the water against its will while it was still wearing its leash. According to witnesses, the pet died from drowning in the area of Playa 72, where its owners left it in the sea with its leash still on and failed to notice the animal was drowning.
Beachgoers reported that a couple, upon arriving at the beach, entered the water with their dog to a depth of approximately chest height. However, they did not remove the leash from their pet. The animal became visibly tired and began to swallow water.
When the owners noticed the dog's distress, they attempted to hold it and pull it with the leash, but the situation spiraled out of control, causing the dog to sink and lose its life.
Witnesses stated that days prior, they had seen the same couple forcing their pet into the sea. On that occasion, the dog had shown fear and resistance.
Residents of the area have expressed outrage over the incident, criticizing the act of exposing pets to such risks. They are calling for municipal authorities to restrict people's access to beaches with pets for safety reasons.
