Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Mexico — The Diablillas Mestizas de Hondzonot are set to face the Felipe Carrillo Puerto (FCP) select team in a charity match aimed at raising funds to cover the operational expenses of the Mexican Red Cross, Felipe Carrillo Puerto delegation.
The softball game is scheduled for Sunday, October 26, at noon at the Chan Santa Cruz Stadium.
Prior to this sporting event, claims emerged suggesting that the participants were "not the real Diablillas de Hondzonot." In response, team members Alejandra Tuz and María Lucila Tuz clarified that there are two teams in the community due to a split, and for them, this is not a reason for conflict.
"We want to clarify that there are two teams, and it is inspiring because in many communities more women's teams are being formed in sports, and that motivates us to give our best in every game," they stated.
The participation of the Diablillas Mestizas, led by their captain Fabiola Chulim, through softball helps to raise the profile of the community and the contribution that young and older women are making. This is the first time they will participate in a charity match.
"We are supporting with our hearts. We are not getting paid; we are supporting a noble cause," the team members said.
The primary objective of the match is to raise funds to strengthen the operability and sustainability of the Mexican Red Cross in the municipality. The resources collected will be used to cover the delegation's monthly operational expenses, which exceed 300,000 pesos.
