Cancún, Quintana Roo — A severe traffic accident involving a Del Valle company bus and three other vehicles left 16 people injured Sunday morning at the intersection of Avenida José López Portillo and Avenida Uxmal in Cancún. The crash occurred near Supermanzana 62 around 9:15 a.m., according to preliminary reports.

Four Vehicles Involved in Chain Collision

The incident began when the Del Valle bus, transporting personnel, was traveling east to west on López Portillo Avenue. Authorities stated the driver failed to maintain a safe distance and rear-ended a public transit van. The impact forced the van forward, striking another transit van and a white Chevrolet Aveo sedan.

Emergency responders from the Heroic Cancún Fire Department arrived to assist with rescue operations. Paramedics evaluated 16 individuals: five required hospitalization for specialized care, while 11 sustained minor injuries and did not need transport.

Municipal Traffic Agents cordoned off the area to conduct investigations and restore normal traffic flow, which was disrupted for several minutes. The bus driver was detained preventively as authorities determine legal liabilities. The case has been referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
