Cancún, Mexico — The restaurant-bar La Palapita, located on Arco Norte in Cancún’s Supermanzana 249, was set ablaze for the second time in three years, prompting an emergency response from firefighters in the early hours of Sunday. No injuries were reported, though the fire caused significant material damage.
Fire Erupts After Closing Hours
At approximately 4:00 a.m., residents of the Cielo Nuevo neighborhood alerted authorities via 911 after spotting flames engulfing La Palapita at the intersection of Arco Norte and Lakin. Employees and nearby residents attempted to contain the fire, which rapidly consumed tables, chairs, and other furnishings.
Unconfirmed reports suggest two individuals on a motorcycle approached the establishment shortly after it closed. Witnesses also claimed surveillance footage captured a vehicle carrying four suspects arriving at the scene to deliberately ignite the fire. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and confirmed the area was safe before departing.
Repeat Attack
This marks the second arson incident targeting La Palapita. The first occurred in the early hours of May 5, 2022, under similar circumstances. Authorities have not disclosed potential motives or suspects in either case.
