Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Officials have officially unveiled the Cozumel Carnival 2026 schedule at the Quintana Roo Park amphitheater, setting the stage for one of the longest‑running cultural celebrations in Mexico. With more than 150 years of continuous history, Cozumel’s Carnival ranks among the oldest carnival traditions in the country and a must‑attend festival in the Mexican Caribbean.
This year’s festivities kick off with a Pre‑Carnival period from January 17 to February 8 at the expanded Moby Dick Events Center, where visitors and residents alike will enjoy expanded seating and activities. Events begin with the presentation of Carnival King candidates on January 17, followed by voting nights for Diversity, Youth, and Children categories through early February.
The main Carnival week runs February 11–18 with a packed schedule of parades, concerts, and traditional celebrations. The first major parade takes place on Saturday, February 14 at 6:00 p.m., departing from the Municipal Palace and concluding with a costume contest and musical performances at the Moby Dick Events Center. A second grand parade follows on Sunday, February 15, accompanied by “Tropical Night,” contests, royal presentations, and shows across town, including family‑friendly events in Quintana Roo Park.
A star‑studded concert is scheduled for Monday, February 16 at the APIQROO port venue, with the headliner set to be announced later this month. The third and final major parade is slated for Tuesday, February 17, capped by another open‑air concert in the park.
Cozumel Carnival is deeply rooted in local culture, blending traditional comparsa groups, colorful costumes, and lively music with contemporary entertainment. Historically, the island’s Carnival has featured parades along the Malecón and culminated in the symbolic Burning of Juan Carnaval, a ritual that closes the celebration and bids farewell until the next year.
Members of the advisory council, municipal leaders, and past Carnival royalty attended the program unveiling, which also included the presentation of the outgoing sovereigns, the official Carnival ballet, and the 2026 poster and theme song. The announcement underscores Cozumel’s commitment to preserving its heritage while showcasing the event’s growing popularity among both locals and visitors.
