Cozumel Hotels Push to Recover Key Flight Routes

Beatriz Tinajero Tarriba, president of the Cozumel Hotel Association

Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The president of the Cozumel Hotel Association, Beatriz Tinajero Tarriba, stated that they maintain the interest in recovering the Volaris flight from Guadalajara to Cozumel and international routes from California and Colorado (United States), key markets for tourist flow to the island.

She mentioned that, following the loss of the flights, they have not stopped working to reestablish those connections; in fact, a large part of the sector’s effort is concentrated on conversations with airlines to keep Cozumel on their radar.

“Three flights to Cozumel were canceled, which ultimately affects the flow of travelers; however, despite this, occupancy was maintained, which shows the resilience of the island; so, if those connections are restored, we would be talking about growth,” Tinajero Tarriba said.

She noted that the withdrawal of the flights was multifactorial, as several aircraft left the market due to maintenance issues, but they trust that once they are available, there will be possibilities for them to return, and this is one of Cozumel’s major bets.

“To the extent that aircraft return to the market, there is a possibility of recovering those flights; we are in talks with Volaris and international airlines to prioritize Cozumel, which will allow us to discuss growth in overnight traveler flow,” she added.
