Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The municipal government transformed Cozumel’s central parks into a vibrant hub of automotive displays and cultural performances on Friday, March 13, attracting thousands of residents and tourists in an effort to boost local tourism and community engagement.
Mayor José Luis Chacón Méndez’s administration organized the event at Benito Juárez and Andrés Quintana Roo parks, featuring an extensive car exhibition alongside artistic presentations. The initiative aimed to diversify the island’s tourism offerings and strengthen social connections through family-friendly activities in public spaces.
The cultural program, coordinated by the Subdirectorate of Culture, included jazz and ballet workshops performing pieces dedicated to Cozumel’s beauty. Carnival groups like “Pasión Latina” and official Carnival ballet troupes energized the stage, while the folkloric ballet “Plaza del Sol” showcased traditional dances from Quintana Roo and Yucatecan jaranas.
At Andrés Quintana Roo Park, the band “Tequila Shot Band” provided live music alongside the car displays, creating a sensory experience blending automotive enthusiasm with rock rhythms. The event drew international visitors from cruise ships and overnight tourists seeking authentic experiences beyond the beaches.
Municipal officials emphasized that reclaiming public spaces for such events enhances security and social harmony while adding value to Cozumel’s tourism appeal. “We continue promoting cultural and recreational activities that not only strengthen Cozumel’s tourism promotion but create spaces for healthy coexistence,” the municipal government team stated.
The strategy positions Cozumel as more than a cruise port—a living community proud of its local talent and capable of hosting large-scale events benefiting local commerce and the destination’s global image.
