Cozumel, QR. As it consolidates as one of the main economic and cultural engines of the island, the Cozumel Carnival received an unprecedented boost this year from the Municipal Government, with resources for contest prizes tripling from 142,000 to 560,000 pesos, announced Mayor José Luis Chacón Méndez.

During the delivery of support checks to candidates in the different categories, the mayor emphasized that backing this festival reflects the current administration’s commitment to the traditions that give identity to the municipality and strengthen its tourist appeal. He stressed that the effort aims to translate into better shows for the community and visitors.

Increased Support for Cozumel Carnival Participants

The increase in economic support, maintained since 2025, will allow those participating in the Cozumel Carnival to have greater resources for costume making, props, and general production, which will help elevate the artistic quality of each presentation.

Furthermore, it was reported that the prize pool for contests such as floats, Torito Wacax Che, and comparsas reached a historic amount, with the goal of recognizing the talent, creativity, and effort of those who bring the Cozumel Carnival to life each edition.

Municipal authorities indicated that these actions are part of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen local customs, incentivize citizen participation, and enhance the economic impact generated by the Cozumel Carnival in sectors such as commerce and services.

With this, the 2024-2027 municipal administration reaffirms its commitment to preserving and projecting the Cozumel Carnival as one of the most emblematic celebrations of the Pueblo Mágico, generating well-being and development for island families.
