Couple Gets 108 Years for Minor’s Rape, Abuse

Chetumal, Mexico — Following the presentation of evidence, the State Attorney General's Office, through the Special Prosecutor's Office for Combating Sex Crimes and Free Development of Personality, obtained guilty sentences for Jorge Alberto Pérez Rodríguez and Ana Patricia López Cruz during an oral trial. The sentences are 75 years and 33 years and six months in prison, respectively, for the crimes of rape and sexual abuse against a minor.

According to the investigation, it was established that the victim began suffering sexual abuse in 2019, when she was 8 years old. The investigation further determined that two years later, in 2021, she was sexually assaulted by her stepfather, Jorge Alberto.

The court documents indicate that these acts occurred with the consent of the minor's mother, who, due to her addiction to drugs, allowed the abuse in exchange for the now-sentenced man providing her with narcotics. It was also determined that the victim was threatened with death if she revealed what had happened.

As a result of the proceedings and the evidence presented by the Social Representation during the trial, the judicial body handed down the guilty sentences against Jorge Alberto Pérez Rodríguez and Ana Patricia López Cruz for 75 years and 33 years and six months in prison, respectively.

Furthermore, the judicial authority imposed on each sentenced individual a fine of 288,760 pesos; a quantitative moral damages payment of 24,000 pesos; and a qualitative moral damages payment of 20,000 pesos.
