Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The president of Concanaco Servytur, Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano, presented Governor Mara Lezama with the “México Muy Mexicano” initiative, which promotes local consumption and national identity. The proposal was introduced during a working tour that included meetings with chambers of commerce in Chetumal-Tulum, Bacalar, Playa del Carmen, and Cancún.
Strengthening Commerce, Services, and Tourism
The first working session addressed key strategies to bolster the tertiary sector, a driving force behind Mexico’s economic and social development. The “México Muy Mexicano” initiative aims to enhance commerce, services, and tourism while fostering collaboration with state and municipal governments. It also seeks to formalize and improve the sector’s competitiveness, prioritizing “unity for a stronger Mexico with greater opportunities for all,” according to Amir Padilla Espadas, president of the Canaco Servytur Chetumal Tulum.
Concanaco Recognizes Governor Lezama’s Efforts
During the meeting, Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano awarded Governor Lezama the “México Muy Mexicano” distinction in recognition of her administration’s commitment to advancing commerce, services, and tourism. She also received a commemorative medal of the Virgin of Guadalupe, Concanaco’s patroness and a symbol of hope for millions of Mexicans.
Forum on 40-Hour Workweek Implementation
De la Torre and Padilla Espadas also participated in the sixth National Forum for the Implementation of the 40-Hour Workweek, inaugurated by Governor Lezama. During the event, De la Torre presented an analysis of Mexico’s formal and informal commerce landscape, emphasizing the role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in economic growth.
Concanaco’s proposal advocates for a gradual, sector-specific labor reform, fiscal incentives to preserve jobs, voluntary flexibility between employers and workers, and full payroll deductions for businesses transitioning to formality.
