Playa del Carmen Among Mexico’s Safest Cities Under Mercado

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — According to the latest national safety perception ranking by polling firm Rubrum, Playa del Carmen has secured the fourth position nationwide and third among municipalities led by women.

Survey Methodology and Findings

The study, conducted between June 2 and June 7, 2025, surveyed a representative sample of adults over 18 through automated phone calls, with a margin of error of ±3.8%. The current municipal administration has allocated historic investments in public safety, surpassing larger and wealthier municipalities in proportional terms.

Investments in Security Infrastructure

Resources have been directed toward acquiring patrol vehicles, surveillance cameras, police training, and emergency response technology. The local government has maintained coordination with state and federal authorities, alongside community outreach initiatives and prompt follow-ups on citizen reports. Municipal officials emphasized that annual budget allocations for security will continue as part of their long-term strategy.

Citizen Perception and Institutional Trust

Rubrum’s report highlights that public perception reflects residents’ evaluations of safety, public services, and institutional confidence. The ranking underscores Playa del Carmen’s progress under Mayor Estefanía Mercado’s administration.
