Starbucks Bear Cup Sparks Campouts and Lines in Cancún

Crowds line up for Starbucks Bearista Cup in Cancún

Cancún, QRoo — What began as the launch of a simple cup turned into a phenomenon worthy of sociological study… or at least a good meme. Starbucks’ new bear cup — the famous Bearista Cup — unleashed an authentic consumer carnival in Cancún, with endless lines, improvised campouts, and people willing to endure cold, sleep, and hunger to obtain the coveted item.

From the night before, dozens of people lined up outside various branches, armed with blankets, thick sweatshirts, folding chairs, and the attitude of “no one is taking this from me.” Some even set up “express camps” on the sidewalk, while sharing coffee, anecdotes, and jokes about the epic mission they were about to accomplish.

With dawn came the true chaos: lines snaking along sidewalks, excited fans recording TikToks, collectors negotiating prizes as if it were a stock market, and curious onlookers asking how magical a bear-shaped cup could be. The answer, apparently, is: very magical.

Amid laughter, light shoving, and widespread excitement, many confessed they weren’t looking for coffee, but “the Christmas trophy of the year.” The cup is already trending, the most flaunted item on social media, and according to some collectors, the next article that will be resold at stratospheric prices.

Meanwhile, the scene in Cancún was painted as a perfect mix of consumerism, pop culture, and viral fashion. And all for a cup. A bear. And an entire community willing to live the most absurd — and fun — coffee adventure of the season.
