Playa del Carmen, Mexico — In compliance with instructions from Municipal President Estefanía Mercado, the Secretariat of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Firefighters implemented the Storm Operation to address the effects of rains registered overnight and into the early hours of Thursday.
Units from Civil Protection and the Secretariat of Municipal Public Services conducted preventive patrols in various neighborhoods, performing cleaning work on grates, absorption wells, and sewers, in addition to verifying water levels in at-risk zones.
During the actions, support was provided to a stranded motorist on a flooded roadway, and 30th Avenue at 50th Street North was preventively closed to prevent other vehicles from becoming trapped.
The Fire Department also participated in the support efforts, assisting two people trapped inside a vehicle in the Centro neighborhood. One of them required basic pre-hospital care, with no serious injuries reported.
The Secretary of Civil Protection, Darwin Covarrubias, emphasized that these actions are part of the permanent preventive work carried out under the instruction of Municipal President Estefanía Mercado to safeguard the integrity and property of Playa del Carmen families.
"We maintain constant monitoring and coordinated actions to respond immediately to any contingency arising from the rains," stated Covarrubias.
The rains are originating from the presence of a low-pressure channel to the west of the Yucatán Peninsula and the influx of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.
The Playa del Carmen government reiterates its commitment to the safety and well-being of the population, underlining that preventive work will continue as long as adverse meteorological conditions persist.
