CANCÚN, MX — A Chinese tourist died by drowning and two others were rescued on Wednesday afternoon at the beach of the Occidental Cancún hotel, located at kilometer 13.5 on Boulevard Kukulcán.
According to initial reports, the three Chinese nationals entered the water without anticipating the intensity of the waves and, just minutes later, currents pulled them out to sea. This prompted the immediate activation of maritime rescue protocols.
Personnel from the Fire Department, Municipal Civil Protection, and Tourist Police arrived at the scene, where hotel security and lifeguards were already attempting to assist the tourists.
Witnesses reported that the three men had entered the water despite warnings about the sea conditions. Two tourists were brought to safety and received medical attention on-site, not requiring transport to a hospital.
Simultaneously, authorities implemented a search operation that included the aerial deployment of a tactical drone to locate the missing man. After several minutes of searching, the aerial camera located the tourist's lifeless body, which was then recovered by the rescue team.
The man was later identified as Cai “N”, 70 years old, originally from China.
The area was cordoned off by elements of the Tourist Police, while agents from the State Attorney General's Office and forensic experts carried out the corresponding procedures, including the transfer of the body to the facilities of the Forensic Medical Service.
