Child Drowns at Isla Mujeres Beach Club During Holiday Weekend

Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — A child drowned at a beach club on Isla Mujeres on Saturday afternoon, despite rescue efforts by lifeguards and paramedics.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. at the Zaza beach club, where the child was with family. Unofficial reports indicate the family had just arrived at the club via catamaran.

Witnesses alerted lifeguards after noticing the child was unresponsive in a pool. Lifeguards pulled the child from the water unconscious, and paramedics attempted resuscitation but were unsuccessful.

Police officers cordoned off the area after the club was evacuated. Agents from the State Prosecutor’s Office took over the investigation and transported the body to the forensic medical service.

Authorities have not released further details about the death.
