LIV Mexican Boat Rodeo Draws 110+ Boats in Cozumel

Cozumel, Quintana Roo — With the traditional starting gun fired at the San Miguel pier, Municipal President José Luis Chacón Méndez led the opening ceremony of the highly anticipated LIV Mexican Boat Rodeo, a fishing tournament featuring over 110 local and out-of-town vessels.

Accompanied by Jalil Alejandro Martín Gaeta, coordinator of the tournament’s organizing committee, Chacón announced that, according to Conapesca, the Mexican Boat Rodeo is the only post-pandemic fishing tournament to surpass 100 participating boats.

“This number of participants is a positive sign that the tournament is moving forward, especially since many boats come from Puerto Morelos, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Cancún, and even from other states like Yucatán and Campeche, as well as from the United States,” the mayor stated.

The event was also attended by high-ranking officials, including:

• Rear Admiral José Alberto Rodríguez Cuevas, Commander of the Cozumel Naval Sector.
• Acting Port Captain Yuliana Guadalupe Velázquez González.
• Sub-Officer Javier Adonay Covarrubias Hernández, Commander of the 558th National Guard Company.
• Brigadier General Armando Toscano Yañez, Commander of the Military Garrison.
• Group General and Pilot Jesús Bautista Alatorre, Commander of the No. 4 Military Air Base.
• Angela Mariana Badillo Rodríguez, Queen of the Navy.

Also present were lifelong tournament advisor Efraín “Payo” Flores, operational director Alfonso Novelo Flores, and Fifth Councilman Javier Ovidio Vázquez López.

The municipal government emphasized that this fishing tournament reaffirms its commitment to promoting sports and cultural activities on the island, which boost tourism development and improve the well-being of Cozumel families.
