Cancún, Quintana Roo — A 24-year-old car wash owner was shot multiple times in his business Tuesday night in what authorities are investigating as an attempted homicide, marking the second armed attack on him in three months.
The victim, identified as A.P.P., a businessman from Campeche, was attacked inside his car wash in the Haciendas Real del Caribe neighborhood in the municipality of Benito Juárez. He sustained gunshot wounds to his jaw, left leg, right arm, and collarbone.
According to the victim’s account, he arrived at his business around 9:50 p.m. to collect the day’s earnings. After speaking with his three employees and reviewing profits, he sat down with them to discuss work matters.
Minutes later, two armed men entered the establishment. One assailant approached him and warned him not to move. When the victim became frightened and attempted to stand up with his bag, the attacker opened fire.
The employees immediately assisted the wounded man, placing him in a pickup truck and initially taking him to his home where they alerted his parents. Family members then rushed him to the Jesús Kumate Rodríguez General Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Hospital social work staff notified authorities around 3:30 a.m. about the admission of a gunshot victim, activating corresponding protocols.
Agents from the State Prosecutor’s Office Specialized Homicide Investigation Unit interviewed the victim at the hospital. During his statement, the businessman revealed this was not his first armed attack—approximately three months earlier, he was shot in the left arm in another incident.
The Common Jurisdiction Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation file for attempted homicide, with the Specialized Homicide Investigation Unit continuing inquiries to identify and locate the perpetrators.
