Holbox, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo Water and Sewerage Commission (CAPA) is repairing a leak in the underwater pipeline that supplies drinking water from the port of Chiquilá to the island of Holbox, the agency announced Saturday.
“CAPA in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas reports that a leak was detected in the underwater line that carries drinking water from the port of Chiquilá to Holbox island, which is already being repaired by operational personnel and a dive team,” the agency said on social media.
As part of the repair work, crews have managed to align the pipe and were proceeding to fit a clamp as of midday Saturday.
“Afterward, operational tests will be carried out with the wells to verify the correct functioning of the system, and once they are successfully completed, pumping will resume to restore the drinking water supply to Holbox island later today,” CAPA added.
Water service remains temporarily suspended. Authorities urged residents to use stored water in cisterns and tanks sparingly.
