Fully Accessible Las Perlas Beach in Cancún Delights Visitors

A group of people, including children and adults, are smiling and standing in shallow sea water with two amphibious wheelchairs on a sunny day with a partly cloudy sky.

Las Perlas Beach in Cancún's Hotel Zone has become fully accessible this week, thanks to modifications made by local authorities. These changes have been implemented to meet universal accessibility standards.

The modifications include separate restrooms for individuals with disabilities, the addition of ramps and railings, and a deck with exclusive palapas. Tactile paving has been installed, along with signage featuring a QR code that links to a video explaining the amenities of Las Perlas Beach, complete with sign language for those with hearing impairments.

To further facilitate access to the sea, three wheelchairs, three amphibious chairs, two amphibious loungers, two amphibious walkers, and mats have been provided. These additions ensure a comfortable, convenient, and safe environment for all visitors.

The newly accessible beach was inaugurated this week. The event was attended by students from the Multiple Attention Center (CAM) and the Ramón Bravo and Pedro Balado schools, who were the first to use the new facilities.

The inauguration was presided over by Benito Juárez Municipal President, Ana Patricia Peralta de la Peña. She commended the efforts of the Municipal Tourism Secretary, Juan Pablo de Zulueta Razo, in promoting equitable and inclusive social tourism. The Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (ZOFEMAT) team, responsible for maintaining the public beach in optimal conditions, was also acknowledged.

Verónica Lezama Espinosa, the honorary president of the DIF Quintana Roo System, expressed her delight at the redesign of Las Perlas Beach. She emphasized the State Government's commitment to inclusion and universal accessibility, and celebrated the opportunity for everyone to enjoy the wonders of the Mexican Caribbean.

Other attendees included Justo Román Miranda Rocha, the director of ZOFEMAT; Eduardo Kuyoc Rodríguez, the councilor of the Tourism, Ecology and Environment Commission; Juan Pablo de Zulueta Razo, the municipal secretary of Tourism; Ricardo Velázquez Prudente, the director of the State Institute for Attention to Persons with Disabilities; and Marisol Sendo Rodríguez, the general director of the DIF BJ System.
